Shershaah Movie Description
Kargil conflict – the most difficult hill war. Fought at a rolling altitude of 17,000 feet, this historic battle had much at stake. Pakistani troops have entered the Indian side of the Line of Control (LoC), posing as Kashmiri forces.
The conflict quickly escalated into a full-scale war that marked the journey of a soldier from Lieutenant to Captain for his complete demonic spirit and patriotism to unfurl the tricolor at the height of conflict. Even if it means giving his own life for the cause.
But before you get there, director Vishnu Varadhan and his writer Sandeep Srivastava are taking their time. So we’re taken back to a childhood sequence of Captain Vikram Batra (Sidharth Malhotra) and shown his growing up years, finding the love of his life Dimple Cheema (Kiara Advani), before he was finally assigned to 13 JAK.
Rifles as a Lieutenant. While this buildup represents the character’s journey, it doesn’t do so neatly to deserve so much screen time. In fact, most of the time Kiara Advani’s songs and romantic songs appear to be a distraction from the weighty subject at hand. This also affects the speed of the film which suffers from a slow first half.
Of course, the director Vishnu Varadhan has a great job of doing justice to the huge amount of data in the episode of Kargil War, but most of it is covered in the second half. Sidharth Malhotra shines in the action scenes and his performance shines throughout the film. His efforts to reproduce the aura of his larger-than-life character come through on screen and this is one of his best performances. Kiara Advani comes across as a strong Sardarni, who loves her man with all her heart. But it doesn’t have much chance.
Shiv Panditt is well done as Captain Sanjeev Jamwal, tough on the outside, but emotional on the inside. Nikitin Dheer is impressive as a joyful major Ajay Singh Jasrotia, just like Shataf Figar as a right colonel Yogesh Kumar Joshi. Together, these men form a competent team that you will support at all times. Among the many other character actors, there are also some stereotypes and clichés, especially on the Pakistani side. The tone of the movie is obvious to nationalism.
Many attackers do not display a large canvas that is placed on the movie, perhaps a great screen experience. Yet, as an industry, Bollywood rarely produces popular war films that have achieved critical and commercial acclaim. By those standards, “Shershaah” ranks above recent war films and tells a compelling story that deserves to be told.
The source of this movie is so strong that it will grab you right away as the men in uniform rise up to drive out the enemy and reclaim our land. ‘Shershaah’s greatest achievement is his attempt to recreate one of the most important chapters of our recent history with characters, leads and an exciting ending.
