History of Mumbai
Mumbai was named after the local goddess, Mumba Devi in 1995. The history of this vibrant and modern city dates back to the reign of the famous King Ashoka. These seven islands were under his rule until he lost them. After his death, he was ruled by various rulers. Finally, the Portuguese handed over these islands to the East India Company in 1668, then it was called “Bombay”.
The islands were finally united into one large one by a separate infrastructure project in 1845; But it was the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869 that opened the country to the rest of the world. Gateway of India
